Background: I’m temporarily living in a suburban area, & because I’ve lived in cities all my life, I don’t drive. This lowers the already the meager job opportunities in the area because I will have to take a lyft or Uber back and forth.
I have an MA in literature from a prestigious university, 10 years of experience teaching — students from elementary to high school as well as 5 years at various universities.
I decided to apply for a position at a tutoring center, and the director was excited to meet me because of”my experience.” In the interview, she tells me that I will get paid $14/hr, although she “likes to reward hard work” and there is a possibility for a raise…eventually. And she ca give me 20 hr/a week.
I accepted because I feel desperate, only to realize later when I got home that I would end up with $9 for 3 hrs work after taxes and my ride back and forth.
I was telling my friend, and she told me that I need to tell the director my situation asap so I don’t waste her time. The longer I think about this, the more annoyed I get. What about my time?!
