I'm going to state first and foremost… I view my position (now) as privileged even though I've gone though some horrendous abuse to get there….
Moving along…
So a few weeks back our group lead told us the company is enforcing mandatory vacation for everyone on the last two weeks of the year. I thought this was amazing and was really excited to get some extra time off to be with my family! It's been a rocky year with starting a new job and some of the things that go on really stress me out as industry best practices are not followed. so getting some time off would be great to relevel myself.
Well that feeling was short lived lol turns out this is being taken out of our PTO allotment and since I had to use all my two weeks to care of sick kids this year I have exactly 0 days left. So I spoke to my manager about this and he told me….”The company is OK with people going negative for this.”…
ummmmm yea….. so based on my current salary that means I would owe the company about $3K and if I quit to go back to my other company (they offered me my position back) I would have to settle an early termination fee for $5K so I'm stuck lol I can't be in debt to a company for $8K.
At this point I think i'm just stuck. I mean I make good money and i'm good at what I do and I do enjoy it for the most part, sure I don't get much vacation but it could be worse. This also means for next year I can't take any time off without going into more debt.
Maybe I don't have the right to complain I know others have it worse but to me this really sucks. I know the main office in Europe gets 4 weeks standard + sick + national holidays where we get much much less. I really hate companies.
