I’m not risking my life for a job

Sorry for formatting, on mobile. I moved from West Texas to Kansas last year. I accepted a job in one city but had already signed a lease & was set to move into said place the week prior to me starting said new job in another. The commute so far hasn't been terrible. It's roughly 30 mins one way, no biggie. Lately when we're hit with snow & generally bad weather, it happens on my days off. So I'm never too worried about it. But tomorrow we're forecasted for 7-9 inches of snow, below freezing temps, ice, etc. And unfortunately, today is my day off. I called my manager to ask if I could work today to be off tomorrow since I haven't gotten comfortable driving in bad weather & while the interstate is usually clear, I'm still a bit scared about having an accident.

A friend on FB posted an email she received from her son's school, stating they lost a student for that exact reason. My manager said the expectation is to make arrangements & be there regardless. (I work at a hospital & there's only been one time when they've given us the option of sleeping in unoccupied beds for bad weather.)

Part of me feels like I'm being a spoiled brat. I could absolutely stay with a friend in town so I can make it in tomorrow. I normally give my cats extra food if I know I'm going to be gone longer than normal too. But the other part of me doesn't want to risk my life for a job. They've already made arrangements to cancel most courier routes for specimen pick up so the lab isn't going to be busy like we normally are. And they've made adjustments to my schedule before so I can get off earlier or have my days off scheduled together. My manager had mentioned I could share a ride with someone that also lived in the same town as me, but there's only one other person that I know of & she comes in 3 hours before I do, which means she also gets off 3 hours before me. So that's not an option.

Anyway, I know I work at a hospital, we don't have the options of closing our doors because of staffing shortages. But I'm offering a solution & if they're not willing to meet me halfway, then why should I extend myself & risk my safety? I have an interview tomorrow morning for a clinic here in town. The interviewer was so accommodating because of the bad weather. We're having the interview over Zoom so already this feels like a better fit.
