Hello, me again. To sum up the previous post, my HR told me I have to get my light duty revoked by my doctor, or I will have no job and will need to take unpaid medical leave. She claims the company policy is that there is no light duty. I have since found out multiple people both present and in the past have been on light duty with no issues, so it's not a policy effectively enforced across the board.
Today, I advanced the issue above my supervisor and HR to the owner of the company personally. He promptly came back to me, and i quickly filled him in on the situation. He took the appropriate channels to trump what HR claimed. The matter was handled within 30 minutes. They decided to change my job title from silk screen production to packaging. This is a job that I know previous people in the position were getting paid $12-14 an hour to do. I am currently at $16. When I was told of this change I asked specifically if my pay rate would he increased and she told me, “temporarily we will pay you your current wage but if you return after leave with restrictions we will have to reevaluate.” After thinking about it the rest of the day I decided to ask my supervisor for this change of job and that my pay would not change in writing (a lot of you on my previous post made me realize just how important this is).
I am just asking for advice on what I can do to be prepared for what they may throw my way as this is increasingly becoming more alarming and definitely more on the discrimination side of HR. She was not aware of any federal or state laws that protect pregnant workers until today, by the way. She argued that there are “no such laws.” So she's kind of an idiot to say the least. When she has a vendetta against someone, she does everything she can to make them quit. She is just all in all a horrible person.
My workplace dynamic is a very small, close-knit office, while the rest of the warehouse and production do not attend the same church. They are Christian based (ironically), and this HR is a member of the church. She is also really close with the co-owners wife, which is why she feels untouchable.
Everyone in this company feels this way about her, but they just haven't done anything about it yet.
