To my manager: Don’t pressure me to provide what the company will not.

I work for a financial at the lowest position the company has. I get paid decently, but I’m in school (that I pay for with this job and loans) and have expenses. My boss wants to take up collections for us to donate our money and/or our PTO (to someone who is sick, but is in a higher-paid position than me) and I’m not going to donate through the company (I may send the coworker some baked goods or a meal when he gets home post-surgery). The company’s lack of PTO/Paid Sick Leave and the USA having absurd medical bills for people suffering is a major problem and I understand this man is probably suffering, but it feels wrong that I’m being pressured to provide what the company won’t. Why can’t we solicit donations from the C-Suite instead? Edit: I don’t give permission for this post to exist outside Reddit.
