Not only does the work itself become more dangerous, just think. A person works a 12 hour stressful shift at work then they get into a car and drive home. There is safety issues related to this. Nobody should be operating a motor vehicle when they are this level of tired and stressed. I work in a factory, and quite often they switch back-and-forth between eight hour and 12 hour shifts. Any time 12 hour shifts are implemented the accident rate goes up, the injury rate goes up, and people leave which leads to a higher turnover rate. 12 hour shifts should be illegal. It’s nothing more than people used for the greater profiteering of corporations.
