Been working at a job for a number of years and became a subject matter expert in my area (data analysis).Over time received numerous promotions and raises but stagnated for the last 2.5 years. Spoke to my direct about it and he told me the new paradigm was not for traditional upwards movement any longer. Instead I’d be expected to take several lateral moves which may not include any financial increases. Thanked him for the advise and started looking for a new job. Found one at a 20% increase and less responsibility.
Resigned yesterday and my manager immediately wanted to match the offer. Told him matching would not do; they would need to offer me 10% more than the new salary. He told me to GFM!
CEO called me (I know him from prior work) and asked me what it would take to make me stay. Gave him a number with a two year guarantee included in writing and wanted to have my current bosses job. Suggested he would do well with a lateral move to another area.
Seemed amenable; will update when they get back to me. No lose situation; either way I’m gold. Never doubt yourself or allow anyone to bullshit you.
