So I had been working a city job for almost a year at extremely low pay due to a seasonal title. I was due for a very significant raise but new mayor decided to put a hiring freeze for at least 6 months and I was done struggling to live on absurdly low wages for a college degree holding position. I decided to go back to working as a EMT covid tester as I did in the beginning of the pandemic. I secured a job with a Cali based company to work in a pop up tent for $30 an hr literally double what I was making with city job. I was promised full time work verbally during my phone interview. I quit my city job and started working there and got in a solid 2 weeks working the tents and then was told that they were ending their pop up tent operations. Since then I have been offered only a few “concierge” shifts they require me to drive all over the city only paying me for a single hour meanwhile it takes 3+ hrs including commute. These concierge jobs make up less than 3hrs a week. I told the boss I was leaving my stable job to work there and now am getting no work while I have rent and bills to pay. I voiced these concerns and they told me they were “restructuring” and having a slow week and would let me know when I had work. So far has been radio silence. What can I do here? I really hate these fuckers rn and would like to take action against them in some sort of way. I luckily was able to go back with my original covid testing company so I’m getting by but I’d otherwise have been fucked.
