My dad's wife used to talk with derision about her sister who worked as a teacher's aide “for ten dollars an hour”. And how unambitious her sister was even calling her “lazy” because she worked as a teacher's aide and didn't try to pursue something with higher pay. My dad's wife earned more than double what her sister did, working in dental and had a nice job for twenty years.
Then she quit her job and couldn't find another one at the same level of pay! She learned that during the recession, the pay for the work she did (dental assistant) had dropped down everywhere. She's broke now and went on SS and complains about her “fixed income” and how hard it is. I have no sympathy for people like this who talk with derision of others earning low pay, then wind up poor themselves.
