I worked at a manufacturing plant as an industrial mechanic for almost 7 years. Today, I was told about a new work order process that requires a production supervisor to contact an “area lead” in the mechanic shop, who then assigns work orders to mechanics or electricians. When the work is complete, the area lead verifies that the work is complete, and contacts the production supervisor to verify that it was completed, then said work order is closed and entered into our rinky-dink custom database that is used because the company is too cheap to buy a license for an actual maintenance tool like SAP or similar. Anyway, despite the fact that I am the most senior mechanic on the shift, and despite the fact that the “area lead” doesn't even know the process flow for individual machines, let alone the whole product flow from beginning to end, I was passed over for the role despite my seniority in the shop. I planned on leaving by mid-May anyway, but these two straws combined broke this camel's back; lack of professional development options (even if supervisor in name only) in my field combined with the introduction of bureaucratic workflow stoppage, I'm just done. I analyzed my budget, and decided that I can do without the extra month of hassle and dealing with bureaucratic b.s. on the job for the next couple of months. I'm done.
And it feels great.
