Long story, but I need some advice.
I work for an independent Hotel. Last night around 2am this lady came down, under the influence of something. Her breathing was slowed, glasses falling off her face, looking like she was in a daze. She came up to the front desk and put a prescription bottle on the desk, slowly trying to explain that someone came into her room and went through her luggage and stole her meds, because they were all missing. I told her I would make a report for my managers, and they can try to help her in the morning. She then said, that it was life threatening, and she would die. I instantly offered to call an ambulance to get her the help she needs. She says “oh no, no i cannot go to the hospital, thats what they want me to do.” I asked “who are ‘they’?” She goes “nothing, not important. Thats not the point. Someone went through my stuff, i need to know who it was. I am innocent, i will die.” I kept trying to keep her calm, and explain that if she feels like she is in danger i will try to find her help, but she kept refusing medical assistance and just went on about needing to know who stole her meds. She finally makes her way back to her room, so I look up her medication because she mentioned it was Klonopin for anxiety. Looking up side effects, and it concerned me that she could have taken too many and may be in a trance and possibly go into a coma or worse, die. Its also possible she forgot how many she took, and took too many and wont remember coming down to the desk. I saw her around 7am after i was getting ready to go home, and she looked much better physically, walking faster and talking normal, but also didnt recognize me. She mentioned to the desk again, she had meds stolen and needed to investigate. She also mentioned that she saw cameras in the hallways, that we do not have. It sounded to me like she is mentally ill, and possibly Schizophrenic. She was staying alone, and I reported this to my managers but they basically brushed it off and said if she dies at least she paid for the room.. What kind of world do we live in where we dont care for the mentally ill? She doesnt deserve to die because we ignored her cries for help. Is this illegal? Unethical? Can they be sued for this? Knowing what i know, i dont feel right about it. Maybe i should talk to a lawyer?
