I work graveyard at a 24 hour pet daycare/boarding place. I work alone and often times when I am on my meal break I need to release a pet to it's owner, answer the phone or other time-sensitive task.
Typically when this happens I just extend my break by a few minutes.
My shifts are 8 hours, and I also always (quite literally, always) stay later than my shift to make sure I don't leave the morning crew with extra work (we have a small staff).
In this case is it illegal for me to be working while on break in this type of situation?
