I’m just trying to get some opinions. Lying is wrong, but I need a good job.
A short backstory: I decided it was time to update my LinkedIn and “connect” with people I know so I could in turn make some professional connections. Turns out an old friend is a recruiter and he reached out to me.
I scheduled a meet up with him via Zoom and we went over my profile and my resume. He helped guide me professionally on what to change. Then he switched gears and gave me his personal opinion, to lie.
The position I want is something I have a lot of experience in, but pesky job titles ruin everything and the last time I actually held that title was 2018. He asked about that company and I told him they closed. His personal advice was to list them as my last employer and instead of 2016-2018, list it as 2016-2021 and to say I lost my job due to them closing from Covid. That way it would show that I actually held that title up until very recently but also a long stay with the same company. And it couldn’t be verified because the company is now out of business.
Will I get caught somehow? Wouldn’t a background check show my other companies? What are your thoughts?
I’ll probably delete this post after a little while because I feel even this small bit of info is very pointed, so let me know.
