It's my last week at my current job so I figured I would post a fun little story on my way out the door. Working front desk in healthcare kind of sucks. You deal with entitles patients, crazy patients, and people fed up with wait times you have no control over (there are also the understanding and nice types but it is mostly the former). It is incredibly draining and underpaid work as you can imagine.
A while back the general manager for the clinic lamented not being able to find people to fill the holes made in our team by high turnover (average has been 3-4 months before leaving or transferring internally for more pay). In an effort to combat this extra strain and show us “little guys” they totally get what we go through, said manager set out to help at the front one morning every week.
The very first morning they helped intake patients for roughly 2 hours and received 3 waiting complaints, dealt with one borderline hysterical patient, and were yelled at twice. Before the morning was over they went to the back saying “I can't do this it's too much” and have not been back up to help since. We are still understaffed and my last day is tomorrow, they still openly wonder why they are unable to find and keep new hires…
