Not sure if this is a universal experience, but given the amount of posts I’ve seen titled some variation of “Fuck Kroger”, I’m assuming it is.
I’m about to leave my job and just a week ago I realized I was being shortchanged. By a lot.
It’s kind of a difficult situation because there are a couple of people at fault for this and it’s mostly due to poor communication at this store specifically but I’m blaming the corporation due to their stupid fucking pay and hiring policies.
Usually you work as a bagger for about 3 months and then acquire hours in a department and THEN you become a cashier but because we were so short on cashiers I was put on as a combo about 3 weeks in and I was okay with this because I thought it meant I’d be getting more money. Because that’s what I was told.
Two of my managers told me combo pay works by every hour you’re on a register or self checkout, so you get about $2 more, and I was on both of those almost exclusively, working close to 40 hours every week, from mid January to now. And I was like, alright that’s fine, kind of shitty they don’t just pay me at the same rate but whatever.
So a couple months go by and I finally get sick of working here and put in my two weeks just before noticing I haven’t been getting that extra pay. I was told to go to my store managers, talked to 3, and they all fucking told me they’re 90% sure you don’t actually get paid that money, it’s just credited as hours towards getting fully promoted to cashier.
So I basically just did a bunch of extra work and didn’t get paid for it.
I guess there’s a chance I could still get some of that money but I sincerely fucking doubt it.
So fuck Kroger, fuck Ralph’s, no fucking wonder they’re going on strike. Fuck these shitty corporations getting away with screwing over workers they could without a fucking doubt pay much more than they currently are.
