I have been working for less than 6 months for this small company (~30 employees). Just a few of them worked here for some years and all of us are so different and although the atmosphere here is ok there is no “family business/ we all love each other” kind of atmosphere here.
In this context someone from the management just emailed everybody, twice, letting us know that he is collecting money to buy a present for the CEO.
I am crazy for thinking that this is not ok?!
I don't think this is corporate corruption but it doesn't seem ethical.
Don't get me wrong, it is acceptable if you are an old employee and you have a special relationship with your boss to offer him a present. Of course you should do this in private since you are so close.
But for a manager to ask me (ask not forced) to give some of my money back to the guy that pays me, it seems wrong and shitty and totally unprofessional.
I've searched this online and all the results are regarding what gift to buy and how to offer it.
I am curious about your opinion.
