My company was bought out by a competitor in December and part of that agreement was that all of the 200+ employees keep their jobs. They told us to continue business as usual and not to worry about anything, heavily emphasizing that they wanted the transition to be as smooth as possible. What they didn't mention is that many of the offshore India team were immediately fired and the remaining had a day of work taken away from them, so they only work 4 days a week now instead of 5. Three months go by as we're all working our asses off to compensate for what has been essentially double the workload because of the India team being sized down. We've all been doing double the work without a raise under the assumption that this is just the transition period and things will go back to normal soon. Then today we had an unannounced meeting with all 200+ people and the execs of the new company told us that the 2 data teams are being “consolidated” and we will be split into 2 groups, 1 of which who's last day of work will be May 1st…. We each have an individual meeting later today to find out what group we will be in. I'm having a panic attack because there's a 50% chance I'm gonna lose my job today… This company bought out our company just so they could turn around and fire half of us when to solve the problem they should be hiring more people. We were all lied to our faces for 3 months by the execs of the new company, told that we could trust them when we couldn't…
