My boyfriend has been with this tech company and was working remotely for about 2 years before getting on a hybrid schedule earlier this year. The official policy is everyone needs to be in the office three days a week (tues-thurs). Unofficially though, his boss said if they had errands to run or appts to go to, they could work from home that day and if the boss is out of the office, no one needs to come in.
This 1hr 30min drive is 2hr+ long due to traffic both ways and he’s brought this up to his boss about coming in fewer times but the response was it’s a policy from the higher ups and everyone needs to be in compliance and the only way out of it is to have a legit excuse. My boyfriend is not comfortable with lying 3 times a week just to maintain a remote schedule (at most once lol).
He’s looking for a new job now but wants to know if there’s anyway to convince them to let him work from home since this commute is ridiculous and unnecessary also considering that he’s able to able to leave at 1:30pm on those days that he works in the office as opposed to 4:30pm when he works from home.
