I was fired for applying for another job. Any small business just isn’t worth working for at this point.

An HVAC company I have been working at for the past 3 years decided to fire me on the spot just because I applied to another job. Filled out an online questionnaire for the resume for the new job and remember specifically telling them not to contact my employer. I also did not list my employer as a reference. Come Monday morning I get called to the office told to bring all my equipment, get sat down and told that I'm terminated on the spot just for looking for work elsewhere. No negotiation about why I wanted to leave just boom gone. This policy was never explicitly told to me before this point or in the paperwork I signed when I joined. When I stressed that point they got real definsive lol. They took it incredibly emotionally and acted like I was a son betraying them and like they'll fall…

They took it incredibly emotionally and acted like I was a son betraying them and like they'll fall apart without me this summer. I apparently owe them some kind of honor debt for training me. Already sent off more resumes than I can count and filed for unemployment. Didn't sign anything on the way out either. Until this point I had every intention of doing things the right way and giving them my two weeks. They decided I deserve to be unemployed just for hurting their feelings.

The only moral of the story is that there are never any rewards in life for overachieving at work. No one is ever going to remember that time you ate a cost you didn't have to or how hard you worked when some people didn't when it comes down to money. It doesn't matter how well you got along with the other employees or how much overtime you work. Small business tyrants are the biggest little b**** snowflakes I have ever encountered as an adult. Looking back on it now I'm just incredibly happy to be free of that mentality.

This is a job that has expected me to use PTO days when it snows in our state and driving is deadly. (Hint it's the big one that hates trans kids.) In the summertime they expect 10 hour days Monday-Thursday and two 8 hour days Friday-Saturday. This schedule made me burnt out and depressed last summer and I don't want to lose every summer for the rest of my life to fucking air conditioning. The Boss also enabled a close friend and chronic alcoholic to work there for years even when the guy would lie about other employees and the work he was actually doing. The guy eventually did something so bad that he might as well have put a gun to my boss's head. I hope that dudes doing better now but I can't imagine getting away with 1/4 of what that guy did.

Sorry for the horrible grammar and rambling. We're all going to make it and God is good.
