So I fell in love with my current workplace a few years ago when I started there. Super nice boss/CEO who actually cared about his employees, organized lots of parties, allowed mistakes to happen without a big fuss. We even had 'trust'-workhours which means if your work is done, it's done – Enjoy the rest of the day. I made a lot of great friends and the benefits are actually awesome (e.g. we basically get free food, throw lots of parties, etc.)
Fast forward to today and I feel absolutely crushed. My colleague (who loves hanging out with my boss as much as possible) gets all the opportunities he can hope for. For example: 2 promotions in half a year while I have to work myself to the bones in order to prove that I'm worthy of a new role.
Now my colleague is my new superior and he couldn't be less condescending. The moment a mistake happens he throws around cusswords.
I stayed late one time working for 11 hours straight to meet a deadline for an important presentation while being rushed from one meeting to another by him and his response was 'Ok but next time do it faster – can't be that we need a whole day for a fucking presentation'
I hate the company now, already looking for a new job. All the time I thought I found a 'safe haven' from the horrifying employer landscape and now it feels like every company – no matter how great they seem – will at one point turn sour and crush you.
