I got an email from the CEO of some spammy recruiting agency, ExecThread. In it, the owner of the company BRAGS about how he does this email even when he's dealing with the loss of a loved one, when he's sick, during family emergencies, etc.
THIS IS NOT THE FLEX HE THINKS IT IS. Subsuming your personal life under your business life is toxic as hell, it speaks VOLUMES about how he treats his family as less important than his job, and how he can't set work/life boundaries. It's disgusting, and I feel for his poor family. Imagine your family mourning the loss of Nana but this dude says “well, that's a bummer, but I have to step away and write this spam email because of Cal Ripkin!” How utterly toxic!
I get it, I've started up multiple businesses, and I've worked my ass off for them. But this kind of attitude is awful, and it tells me that this dude expects the same sort of “work ethic” from his people and, likely, the people he recruits. Sorry, bud, but if my family is going through the loss of a loved one, it would be DISGUSTING if I put my job over supporting my family. End of story.
Now, in his defense, he goes on to say that he's finally taking some time off soon, but… man… that utter lack of ability to prioritize your own family over work is terrifying.
Sorry for venting. This just rubbed me the absolute worst way possible.
