Sorry y'all for the long post.
Back during the start of the pandemic, I was working retail. We had at least 3 manager changes within the span of 6 months. Then this boss is hired. Let's call him A. A was incompetent; He would literally hide whenever we directed customers towards him, shifted all of his work onto us, demanded that we put in “140%” whenever we put in 120%, threatened to dock pay from us for being 1-2 minutes late, amongst other things. It was so bad that half of the workers at our branch left.
I was mostly out of it until the day I got called in immediately after my wisdom teeth extraction. I requested that day off because I knew it was gonna be a bad time. He legit said to me: “I. Don't. Care. Get here or you're fired.” Half drugged, that whole day I had to hold back from crying in pain.
The interesting part was that he was never fired. One day he announced he would be buying a new fridge for us. He took money from the register and then just up and left never to return. Since he took less than a certain amount and uncertainty over his current location, the company could not sue him. But the damage he did was done. Its best workers have left and the ones who remained were overworked, not trained enough, incompetent, or a combo of those traits.
This experience was lowkey NOT the worst out of working there, but it was def one of the most stressful throughout. This includes dealing with a coworker's sexual harassment, breaking up active fights between coworkers, catching coworkers having sex in the bathroom and in the warehouse, and having a lockdown after a guy threatened us with a gun. I might write about those stories in other posts if people are interested.
TLDR: Incompetent boss with stupidly high demands has half the department leave because of him and threatened to fire me after I initially refused to come in on my day off when I had my surgery :).
