Put in 2 weeks notice, left on day 13

I left a job last week the day before my final work day of my 2 weeks notice. On Thursday (my last day was supposed to be Tuesday), they sent me a FedEx signature required letter stating that since I didn’t complete my last day of work (my cat died so naturally I didn’t come in), that it was job abandonment and to return my badge & come back to clean out my desk. I sent a certified letter back to them telling them to go to hell. This job had mandatory OT, no sick pay, and if you called out they’d pull you into an office for an hour to tell you how you were hurting the organization and that you needed to know that you made work harder for everyone else. My cat got really sick about a month prior (he was 17 years old), and I asked for time off to spend his last few weeks with him. They denied it because it was too much consecutive time, but they emphasized with me and maybe I could ask my coworkers to cover the shifts I was going to miss? I am unemployed and they have to pay out my vacation time (240 hours), so I’ll be okay until my new job starts in May, but it sucks receiving that letter while also mourning the loss of my best friend.
