I’ve stumbled across this sub and seems to generally align with why I started my own businesses in the past. I never made a livable wage working for others. Particularly the platform I’m building now, stems from my experience with working.
It seems most, if not all, small businesses either operate so inefficiently they can’t afford to pay decently; or they provide such little value to consumers, that they don’t profit enough to pay decently (or they’re just greedy).
I think of businesses as a middle man between a consumer and a producer or service provider; and often times they are an unnecessary part of the transaction. It made sense at one point, as you had to have a physical location to sell goods and services, but that’s no longer the case.
Why would someone work at a rental car company for $9 an hour instead of renting their car out for $60/ day?
Many businesses should and will go out of business; which frees up resources for more useful uses, whether it’s more housing or businesses that can’t be conducted remotely, or are more productive.
TLDR: I’m annoyed by low paying small businesses as much as the large ones but am not anti-business, just anti shitty business.
