I have been constantly trying to find a job after being laid off from a huge company after22 years. I was on LinkedIn today and this hiring manager seemed to be complaining about a one year work gap? But he patted himself on tje back that he ignored the gap and have the kid a chance. We are coming out of a pandemic…nothing is normal! Corporate is treating it like we should be falling in line like status quo prior to pandemic. I have been struggling for 3 years, 2 years pandemic and honestly my niche career in TV advertising sales is not needed anymore, everyone wants digital people with over 10 years experience. I am so frustrated right now because corporate greed is truly taken over. They are phasing out the middle class the people making money are the rich are getting richer. They are saying unemployment is up, yeah for slave labor, because our political parties cannot get it in line with the other countries who provide fee health care and education. Us tax, hard working are supporting the rich and it has to stop. I apologize for my rant, but corporate greed destroyed my lively hood and how quickly it can turn on a dime, because my HR person when they laid me off honestly said, “would you like me to cry with you?”. It really showed me how much corporate does not care and political leaders are giving them free reign to cancel out the middle and lower classes. Corporations need to pay their share, not get rich off of people's struggles.
Does that still apply is we are hopefully at the end of a pandemic, we may be entering world war 3 and this man took chance he said and hired this kid even with a 1 year work gap. Damn I am screwed if this world says it's back to normal like a pandemic never happened. I got laid off during a reorganization at a place I naively thought I was going to retire at. I took a leap and bought a house that I saved for and one year later got laid off. Now being at a company for 22 years and being told that I was excellent at my job, I got spa days from the chair woman and at the end of the day they gave me a raise only to let me go. Now I have to deal with ageism as I try to get back into a similar industry and I will take a crushing pay cut that will probably cost me my house
