It all worked out just fine

I don’t know if this counts. I actually liked my job and the people I worked with. But after 30 years and a health issue that nearly killed me, I decided it was time to cut back on the workload So I went to the boss and proposed cutting my hours back to 4 days a week. So I went to the boss and proposed cutting my hours back to 4 days a week. I would take a commensurate pay cut and would work for a few more years. But not on Fridays.

At first they thought it would work but after about three months of “we haven’t gotten approval from corporate” I said I needed a decision.

They said no.

So I said I was going to retire.

Then they decided they could do it. But that offer had expired as far as I was concerned.

They asked me to stay six months to train someone. I agreed.

But during that time I didn’t work any Fridays and still got paid in full.

Retired at 61. I’m 67 now and glad they said no. Retirement is the best job I’ve ever had.
