I have a heartwarming story. I worked retail before my current job and my manager would have you working unless you were actively vomiting or had passed out. Kind of a “Safe to drive? Safe to work! Unsafe to drive? Well then, might as well work!” kinda workplace. To be fair, we were critically understaffed, because retail.
I'm at a new job now which treats people really well. Need a day off? Call in at least an hour before shift and no worries. No guilt trip.
So, I had finished all my work for the day, but there were two hours left and I felt like hot garbage from getting my covid booster. Brain fog, dizzy, and a migraine. My manager asks me to do this thing, and I go over but mention I feel like garbage.
My manager immediately tells me to go home if I'm not feeling well. However, I still am in retail mentality and just… tell them I'm good enough and do it. Meanwhile, my supervisor and manager both come check on me frequently, making sure I haven't passed out.
I went home 10 minutes early and this is the reason my current employer will have my loyalty for a hell of a long time.
