I was offered a position on Wednesday March 16 at approximately 3:15pm CST. I accepted at about 3:20pm, all via email and was called for the start date. I have all the emails saved.
Thursday 3/17, I took the fam out to eat, planned savings, paid bills, and paid off some EXTRA debt, since I was going to have more income coming in as my start date was April 11. Now keep in mind the debt didn’t have to be paid off but I did it since I’d have income coming in.
Today Friday 3/18 at 8 am I receive an email saying… and I quote (copied from the email, only thing changed was I removed the title of the position):
“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have to rescind the offer of employment for the (position). Due to some internal policies made by our executive board we will not have this position at this time. We will keep your resume on file for the future when we decide to move forward with this position.
Sorry for this inconvenience.”
How is this okay? This is an at will state so I know I can’t do jack about it. But like 10 ish working hours after the offer the position is not a thing anymore or they are lying?
I first talked to the owner of the company 2/16 via his cell and mine and knew he wanted me so I didn’t apply for anything else, this is irrelevant ? maybe, but still. He told me to send résumé and all. He then went skiing for over a week so I waited, no rush.
I went through 2 interviews then got the job, first one with him on 2/24, then with the lady (that sent the rescind offer) for my second interview on 3/15. I did an interview then she took me around the whole building to meet EVERYONE. Got the offer 3/16 afternoon, then rescind email 3/18 at 8 am/this email today. Their HR rep just switched to another company 3/8 so this person (who interviewed, hired, and introduced me to the whole company) is filling in.
This person who sent the email is not even a hiring manager. I called her cell (she gave and told me to call her cell if I needed anything) and no answer. I called the COO (who I talked to 2/16 and saw him two days ago and he was happy to see me for the second interview) and no answer.
I’d like some more clarity, I am aware I probably won’t get it but I guess I’m just pissed and venting. If I don’t get clarity on Monday I’ll write reviews on Glassdoor, indeed, etc. as that where the job was posted and I’d hate someone to do literally what I did and went through, especially financially, had I not been given the job I’d not have paid off some debt (had to spend over 1k in vet bills and putting my elderly dog down a week ago, that’s what I paid off).
Input and advice would be appreciated if not I’m venting. Sorry for formatting or anything. First post on Reddit ever. TIA.
