Had 3 great (in my opinion) interviews with a potential employer, to which they almost immediately issued me an offer. That's great, but the compensation was definitely too low. Almost immediately had a chat with them about it and presented them with facts and arguments as to why this is subpar. I also reminded them what my desired range was, which I stated from the very beginning of our initial chat. Negotiation goes well as I have an answer to all their questions and can prove their offer is subpar, while getting them to stumble on some questions, admitting they're not sure how they got to the number they were offering me. I make a counter offer. They say they really want me on board and agree to get back to me by the end of the week with an “improved offer”.
3 weeks pass (not very professional already) and the “improved offer” comes along. Still subpar. How long do I keep wasting my time (and theirs) like this? How many rounds of back and forth should I draw the line at after which I just say “listen, it's this or good luck finding someone else”.
A bit of a rant but I'd like to hear the experience of other people out there to see if I'm just being a spoiled brat or if the “improved” offer is still shite, I should just drop it.
tl;dr: got a job offer, shit package, made a counter offer, waited 3 weeks, got a second offer, still shite. How long should I keep going with this?
