I worked for a local newspaper until a couple of hours ago. Had been there for 2-3 years.
Before this, I had been on disability leave for a little more than a year, so you can imagine I was looking for stability and structure to help me take care of my health upon my return. I came back to work at the end of January and it was an absolute shit show.
My director (who is co-owner of the business) had an assistant director who is now on maternity leave for a year. She didn't find a replacement because she figured she could do the job herself. It has left us, the employee, without a contact person for everyday questions or hiccups.
She assured us she'd be available for us. She wasn't. Took her hours to reply to a simple question and I had to remind her to keep me in the loop about certain things all the time. She would send me incomplete instructions for projects and I had to run around and pick up the slack. It sucked, but I was from home full time and enjoyed it, so I sucked it up.
The last straw was this morning. During a meeting, she told us that she was going on vacation for 2 weeks in less than a month for a hunting trip in Africa. Now, this person is the OWNER and everything has to be run by her and approved by her all the time. It's a small organization, maybe 30 employees, and when she used to leave, her assistant would take over. Even with her assistant gone, she said that there was no way in hell she wasn't going on that vacation and that we would have to make do during that time.
I called her back after the meeting and told her I wasn't coming back after lunch today or ever again. No two weeks, no nothing.
I'm feeling very proud. Just wanted to share.
