The beatings continue – Morale not improving

I cried today because of my job. There was a third round of layoffs in the last year on Thursday. Were we told beforehand? No. Was anyone who wasn't laid off told? Also, no. Did anyone in the media cover it? No, because we are the media. The only reason I know is because one of those good people who were laid off took the time to email me and tell me how much they enjoyed working with me.

From their personal email. 3 days later. 40 years with a company and laid off with no warning. I was honored that they did that for me – which was why the crying.

The company is making more changes in the next couple months. Changes that will make me unable to do my job – for a few months anyway – until they figure out how to make the software do what's required and then we get to play catch up. Despite management promising that they will find me things to do in the meantime and train me on this new software, I feel like I'm playing a game of Chicken with my entire life.

Once this new software goes live, I'm willing to bet I'll be laid off or at best furloughed until the kinks are worked out. The real question is do I go find another job at another company that will do the exact same garbage or do I wait and hope and make them lay me off when the time comes?
