I’ll keep details brief and sparse because a few of my coworkers browse Reddit so there’s a very good chance they’ll see this.
Even though I’ve only been at my job a few months, I came to them with experience that not all my coworkers have, and even upper management has mentioned how much of an asset I’ve become in such a short amount of time. My hourly wage was recently increased, but this wasn’t a raise so much as them bumping up everyone’s pay to the same as what they are currently hiring at.
I’ve recently been taking on a lot of extra tasks, so I worked up the nerve to request a meeting with my immediate supervisor. I told her that based on my experience alone I should already be making more than someone just starting out, and that all the extra work they’ve been having me do normally comes with additional compensation.
She agreed that I’ve really stepped up and that my experience came in handy when I started out, but mentioned that they really don’t do raises outside of annual reviews, but I was on track to receive my annual raise later this year.
So somebody just starting out with no experience is making the same as me, and I have to wait more than 6 months to get a 50¢ raise.
I will mention that this isn’t food service or retail, and they’re severely underpaying us compared to other companies in the same field.
Edit: I can’t math.
