Do men get told that they need to act more perky and bubbly at work?

Genuine question, and sorry but I'm tired of being told this by talent agents. I am a female and work in a science lab, and I don't work with people or customers. I work with data and computers. Everytime I apply for promotions, I'm told that I need to be very bubbly and more perky for my interview. That's not my personality, I'm very straight forward and to the point. Im all for having a positive attitude but why do I have to act more like a cheerleader?!
