Today is resume day. While I like the people at my job, the job itself has turned into a giant suckfest ever since the damn plague started, and I've become locked into the position of being the resident substitute driver no matter how much I make it clear that I want a permanent South Sound route. They know, because I've been very vocal about it, how much I absolutely despise having to drive around downtown Seattle and come home late most days, but I keep getting told, “Well we're having trouble finding new employees”. Which I get; it's a worker's market, and will be for a while. But my labor is my product, and I no longer have the patience or the emotional bandwidth to allow my product to be wasted while I wait for them to figure out how to hire more people. Relying on your employees to recruit people might have worked pre-pandemic, but it's an inefficient, ineffective method now. So, as much as I hate to be mercenary about it, my product is going to the highest bidder i.e., whoever can provide me with a proper work/life balance at a proper wage. As of now, by necessity, I am seizing the means of production.
