Been job hunting the past 6 weeks. I've filled out over a 150+ applications to positions I'm well qualified for and I'm so fucking FRUSTRATED with the lack of movement on the business end of things.
The thing that happens most often (93 times) has been a single day rejection of my application in lieu of a “more qualified candidate” or “we've decided to pursue other applicants at this time”. Which is fine, I recognize that sometimes the role being opened is looking for a hyper specific skillsets and even though I didn't pass the bullshit resume scanner keyword search I appreciate the feedback and my time is free to pursue other positions.
The bullshit comes from the times that I just never hear anything. One would come to the conclusion that if you needed a person to fill a role and someone applied you could just say “Yes/No” and both parties could move on. The only reasons I can think of for you to sit on an application is that you're waiting for more applicants to narrow down the search, or that you're only trying to give the appearance of hiring.
Frankly it's bullshit, and it pisses me off when I hear people complain about my generation not wanting to work. ALL I WANT TO DO IS WORK. Like I need to be able to purchase food and pay my bills ffs. Employers have awful hiring practices and qualified candidates slip through the cracks at every stage, but the delays that are inflicted on their end do not endear me to work for their company. If that's how they treat my time as potential talent how are they going to treat me when I start and they suddenly feel like they own me?
If you call me back after 6 weeks asking if I want an interview the only thing I'm going to say is “No, thank you, remove me from consideration please.”
My time is valuable too douchecanoes.
