I(19f) work in retail, and I got a raise a little bit ago now. During my annual performance review, I was told that there were zero complaints towards my work, and that I was an exceptional employee. Their ‘star employee,’ in their words.
Well, I was then told I got a raise. A whole 2%. I was told it was one of the largest, if not the largest, raise among my coworkers. My first thought was… geez, I wonder what my coworkers got for a raise. My coworkers are wonderful people, and I love being able to work alongside them. For them to get anything less than a 2% raise baffles me, especially since 2% already seems incredibly small. I was then, naturally, told not to share this information with anyone. Can’t say I didn’t expect that.
I put on a smile and thanked the person I was with. I wasn’t disappointed about what I was given— I’ll take anything, really— but I just felt bad for the people I work with. Less than 2%? Geez…
