So this isn't nearly as bad as some things on this sub, but I'm so frustrated and don't know what to do anymore.
Some backstory: I (16f) have been working at a family-owned restaurant since October. Since then, two of my friends and now my sister have joined me in working there. Everything was going great until a few weeks ago, when they hired a guy (15m) who is the son of a former waitress.
Now, this kid is super annoying. Not only does he repeatedly walk by tables that need to be bussed/cleaned, he also spends all his time talking to customers and doing drinks. I'm not sure how other restaurants work but at this one, there is a very clear distinction between servers, bussers and hosts. He is a busser as he's only 15 and has been here less than a month. His only job is to clean tables and take them small things they ask for. He is not supposed to be doing drinks or bugging them, asking if they need anything.
Him not doing his job is annoying enough but as a hostess, watching the customers get annoyed and seeing the servers lose tips over this kid is really frustrating. Not only are my friends (also bussers) upset, but he's creating so much tension as servers are getting more and more angry with him.
My job is to take people to tables and check people out. I'm supposed to stay at the front. But even with three bussers on a slower night, I've cleaned more tables in the past two weekends than I have in 3 months, since I was made a hostess. And even worse, my managers like him. They're soft on him and are trying to keep the peace, when he needs to be corrected because I've talked to one of my teachers who came in who was so annoyed that they said they aren't returning.
Not to mention, this kid doesn't even wear the uniform that's expected. He shows up in a hoodie and jeans when the uniform is black pants, black shirt and a belt.
And when our manager talked to him, he acted innocent. I'm upset about this because home is a rocky place and work was one of the only places I enjoyed being, but now with him around, I can't even enjoy that.
TLDR: He's making customers not want to come back and being very unprofessional but it doesn't matter because my manager likes him.
