Some have been lucky like me. They have found a job that they love and want to give their all towards it. It’s a great feeling!
However, when my boss went to HR on Friday to petition for a raise, she was met with “[Company] doesn’t pay for performance”. Which not only chaps my already chapped ass, but was upsetting to my boss as well. She’s worried that she’s going to lose me, and frankly, I can’t blame her. She offered to be a reference for any job I find, but she’s going to continue to fight to get me more.
Today, I applied for 2 jobs. Both making at least 50% more than I am right now. I thought I would feel guilty (I always used to when thinking about leaving a job), but I just feel offended and pissed off.
No wonder I feel like everyone around me barely meets their job requirements. If I knew I wouldn’t be paid for doing outstanding work, I wouldn’t give it my full attention either. Turns out, I was the sucker the whole time.
Here’s to jobs that pay you what you’re worth…and don’t lowball you. You may love your coworkers and your boss, but at some point, you need to think whether your social life at work is worth the additional $10/hr you could make in another position.
On a related note, if anyone wants a kickass data analyst that’s well versed in multiple programming languages, report design, automation, and project excellence…I know someone who may be interested…
