Last week I had spoken with the CEO of the company I was working for about working from home. My daughter was sick and I needed to pick her up from school. She asked if I could work from home, to which i said yes. I also asked if I could work from home the next day if my kid was still sick. She approved both days as long as my direct supervisor was okay with it. I cleared this with my supervisor and worked at home Monday and Tuesday. On Friday when I submitted my time sheet I received an email from the CEO asking why I worked from home for 2 days, even though SHE approved it, and I put it in my email with my time sheet. The email also a used me of taking advantage of my new supervisor’s “learning curve” by working from home for those 2 days. I replied in an email addressing this, and telling her I was offended that she would accuse me of that after she had approved my working form home. The following response was even nastier than the first, telling me that I am “unprofessional” and that I should be “less disrespectful” if I want my communications considered. She also stated she would not be apologizing. After reading through her email I was a bit heated. I typed up a draft calling her out on her unprofessionalism and stating that my final day would be Friday (today) as I refuse to work for a bully. After some thought and time to cool off I decided not to send that particular email. I went in to work this morning and was told by my supervisor that the CEO had read my resignation last night and since I stated this would be my last day, to turn in my stuff and just go home. I informed my supervisor that I did not put in a letter of resignation. She agreed that she had not received a notice, as she was a recipient of all of the emails including the draft. The CEO went into my email and read the draft. She is now saying I sent the email and have resigned. I sent her a message stating that I didn’t resign and would need a formal letter of termination. To which she replied “You sent an email. You resigned. Hard to lie when it’s in writing. Take care. “ I no longer have access to this email and she will not send me proof of my resignation or termination. But I know I DID NOT send a resignation and believe she has wrongfully terminated me. I should also note that she is known to fire people when she dislikes them or when they have plans to leave. Her communications are always unprofessional. She will not make any contact with staff when she is in the office. Her emails are always very rude and nasty. As the owner CEO of a mental health/case management company she does not know how to communicate appropriately. Can anyone suggest what steps I should be taking now?
