TLDR: Trained for two days and was left alone to work for three, and was expected to be an expert by manager.
So a bit ago, I left my one job for a receptionist job that paid better and it seemed that I would like more. I met the owner (K) and we hit it off fairly well. I was hired on spot and came in for training, even though I was still working my last two weeks at my overnight job. I tried to start after the two weeks but she wanted me working asap. I come in and train, unpaid to a place 45 min away from my house after working an 8 hour overnight shift (which totally on me for picking somewhere almost an hour away but I digress) I tried my best to keep as much information as possible as she trained me, and she said after my second day of training I would be opening and closing the store by myself and running it myself. It’s a massage parlor so it wasn’t like tons of people were coming in to shop, but still anxiety inducing. What one was the nice woman that brought me in and was excited to have me quickly became someone who wouldn’t answer my questions when I texted her and would get angry anytime I made a mistake. The massage therapists were kind of awkward with me, but it made sense since I didn’t see them much and I was two times younger than them (me being around 20 and then in their late 40s+). While working, I’ve heard the therapists and owners talk bad about customers because of acne on their back, being quiet, their mannerisms, etc. even saying “you know how autistic people can be” assuming a customer they didn’t like was autistic. I was also accused of stealing tip money from two therapists even though there was camera footage of me handing them the money. They would also bash this one therapist constantly and tell me about how awful of a person she is. K would often lie to customers saying that therapist a actually had a family emergency so they wouldn’t be in but therapist b has an open spot, or we don’t have availability at this time, this room won’t be available, etc, and for scheduling reasons I can kinda get it but it was just so often. Of course I made mistakes, as one does when first starting a job they don’t have experience in, but she would either not answer when I had questions until hours later or make me feel incompetent for not getting it right. K would send me paragraphs saying what I did wrong, never anything about what I did right. My last day I forgot a thing or two, but especially forgot to send out reminder texts to the clients for the next day. K asked if I did, and I anxiously said I did (and that is 100% on me, I lied ) and she made me feel bad, saying she had to leave dinner with her family to “take care of this” and called me unprofessional for not doing it. I occasionally check in to see how it’s going on the Insta, and I do see someone new every time. It sucks seeing how all the comments and reviews are putting her on such a pedestal saying how generous she is and how she treats all her customers with kindness and respect. I just wanted to rant a lil and thought this would be a good space for this. I am also half asleep at the moment so hopefully this post makes sense lol. Goodnight.
