A little rebellion

Hey guys. Just discovered this subreddit thanks to a tip from a kind stranger. I have always been an idealistic, common sense type of guy. I’m sure it made me a very difficult kid to raise. I could never justify selling hours of my life to a system I not only saw no benefit from, but actually would make me complicit in things I have a moral opposition to. After switching careers every few years… I realized, being an employee would never work for me. So. I started a business. I wanted it to allow for creativity, flexibility and help with the depletion of our natural resources in some way. So, I became a woodworker that works with recycled and up-cycled materials. Sounds like some hippie stuff, I know. It is. The government still takes way too big a piece of my pie, but at least I’m doing things on…

It is.

The government still takes way too big a piece of my pie, but at least I’m doing things on my terms.

Where I’m from, sales tax only exists after you’ve made $30,000 revenue.

So, to increase altruism and decrease government misuse of my earnings, my plan is to stop taking orders after $29,999.99, or donate anything beyond that amount and write off what I can.

I only need to worry about supporting myself and I have worked very hard up until this point to not require more than that.

I would like to know any ideas regarding how to avoid taxes, (legitimately), get kick backs, or maximize the write off amount of charitable donations.

(Canadian, btw!)

Also if you would like to support my small business with an ethical woodwork commission, just ask!

Online, I focus on smaller items for musicians, but have done everything from guitars to curio cabinets.
