Pension discontinued

So… I happened to be digging into my employer benefits this morning and I see the company policy has been updated to discontinue the pension to new hires effective January 1, 2022. We literally just had our annual employee meeting (with thousands attending) in which we were told those near the global offices needed to return to work on a hybrid policy effective next week. Yet..the company pension had been axed without a word/mention of it. In addition, I just hired a new employee over the holidays and we started them early January. Why not tell me, HR, that this was coming so I could have pushed to get them on in December instead of early Jan? I'm seething a bit right now…..
