Coworker suddenly thinks he’s in charge of me

I was never antiwork until I spent two+ years in corporate America. Recently my coworker got his CMA and a promotion to “Senior” accountant instead of staff. He now acts as though he’s in charge of me and has progressively been getting more and more rude. It’s sad because we spent two and a half years getting along great. It’s as if he thinks he’s my boss all because of a slight title change. He’s even told me “when I’m promoted to assistant controller, you’ll take on all my work.” Like, no? What do you think you’ll be doing as AC? Just today he asked me if something was on my job description and then tried to take some of my duties as his own because he wants to work more with the financial statements. It’s all just so weird and putting a toll on my mental and physical well-being.…

Just today he asked me if something was on my job description and then tried to take some of my duties as his own because he wants to work more with the financial statements. It’s all just so weird and putting a toll on my mental and physical well-being.

Nothing more has made me desperately want to leave this field than dealing with the new him. Hell, I even want to quit work all together. I’ve been using up my sick days and vacation days and it’s shocking to see how my health improves on those days. I track my heart rate/ other health junk, and it’s always leaps and bounds better when I’m not in the office. It’s sad that we’ve come to think 8-5+ five days a week is normal and expected.
