[Question] Should pay be based off of the work performed or the personal situation of the employee?

So honest question based on some threads I've read here. Should someone's pay be based on one's personal situation, or based on the work being performed. I just read a post where $11/hr isn't enough for a mother of 5, but is it enough for a mother of 1, or does that even matter? No one asked what the job was (that I saw) but were basing their criticism off of the fact that she was needing more money to feed her family. I'm not an employer or have say in anyone's pay, and honestly wish I could get paid more fairly for what I do, but my thoughts are based on the work I do, and what I think is fair market value. That's how I've always thought of it. I've never thought that my employer should take into account my familypersonal situation when it comes to paybenefits. Just…
