My manager has been working at our company for over 35+ years. Myself, about 5 years (also in a management role)
He is “respected” by the older generation but moreso feared by newer employees.
Since my time working with him, he's admitted that he doesn't believe we should hire minorities because of how our customers would perceive our organization. Further to this, he's made numerous comments about reasons (pregnancy, relationship situations – whatever that means) why we shouldn't hire women after one of the women I hired needed time off after she had gotten abused from a domestic violence situation. And that, my employee is paid too well for a women compared to her male co-workers and that she doesn't deserve a raise over her male colleagues.
Frustrated, I shared these comments with another female co worker that I trusted and she went to see hr and shared my comments.
I was called into an hr meeting and forced to sit down with the head of hr and my sexist and racist manager and apologize for spreading these lies about him.
Fun times.
