Quick vent,… and small boast.
Tldr: kid quit his job when company altered his time sheet and then “forgot” to make out his paycheck.
Background:
So my kid and his gf (both <20) got hired by a pool management company for a neighborhood pool to be the asst mgr and mgr respectively. Mostly due to the fact that they are both certified lifeguards and pool operators by the state. That said their presence is legally required at all times for the pool to be open (at least 1 of them anyway;important later).
Their management responsibilities include scheduling, staff attendance/reviews, and managing on site materials (chemicals for the pool and cleaning products mostly). If they need any of these materials, they request from management company who brings the chemicals needed. Clock in/out is via a web app with geo location. They make the schedule to ensure coverage and meet state work reqs for lifeguards (no more than 30 in the chair at a time)
The most recent pay period ended 15 days ago and checks where SUPPOSED to be done yesterday. They werent. The delivery of checks for “all” staff showed up but only 3/9 checks were there, one of the missing one being my kids check. So hes pissed not only for himself by his employees too, some of whom this is their first bit of cash this summer. Hes been working continuously, so he still had some in the bank.
Hes been diligent in keeping his own records of clock in/out and when he went in to check how much he SHOULD have had, he found at least one day with time altered by the main office after the fact. His gf, who did get her check, checked and noticed hours missing from hers as well.
Now if they both quit, that puts the company in a HUGE pickle because they have no pool operators and legally cannot open the pool. But this would put them in breach of contract with the community and would loose massive amounts of revenue.
I am more than pissed at this company myself and will be going to the various communities that now use them and let them know of their shenanigans. BBB and google reviews will be entered.
I am proud of my kid though. Under 20 and he already understands his value is more than a job thats just try to steal from him. Hes already getting paper work in order for county and state labor boards. I am sad he has to do this, but happy that he hasnt been scared off by prick employers.
Note: he had two jobs at the time so he’ll just be picking up more shifts at the restaurant he also works at.
