The details:
In April of 2020 I was hired as a covid screener at my hospital. This was a student position, as no one thought covid would last so long. I am not in medicine nor do I wish to get into healthcare, anyone with social skills can do my job. We were hired on a contract for 6 months. Wage is $17/hour (im canadian) and minimum wage for the province was $14.35. After 6 months covid didnt go away. Hired for another 6 but they retro-paid us at a rate of $21 for working during the pandemic which was nice. Well, surprise surprise covid got much worse and lasted for another year. Now its 2022 and my entire department has been working for $17 an hour after the first intial 6 months of the pandemic. Minimum wage will increase to $15.55 on April 1 so our rate is no where near as good as it used to be.
Plead: Out of all my coworkers i am the only one thats been working since the initial hiring. People have came and left since then. There is higher position available but I have never been able to do it because of school. Is there any way I could actually get a raise? Any advice?
