Much of our relationship with work was standardized during the 1950s, and that includes our work-life balance. However things have changed significantly in that aspect since then. You see, work-life balance in the 1950s was set under the assumption that everyone who worked had someone whose express purpose was to take care of their life once they left work, i.e. a housewife. But today, when the cult of domesticity has largely been abandoned, we work the same amount without having that same life cultivation.
