Antiwork

I have a stable job, but my new favorite thing to do is apply for jobs and be completely reasonable in my expectations as a human being.

My resume is very beefy for what I do and I have a skill that is very difficult to find. I usually get panicky phone calls from recruiters/managers demanding I call them back as soon as possible. I never call them back as soon as possible. I call them back maybe two days later, three if it's the weekend. The first thing I do is ask what the pay is. If they dance around it at all I tell them straight up I'm not going to continue talking to them without that information. Usually it ends there because that is a hard line in the sand that our masters are totally unwilling to cross. If I get the number I ask for compensation that is higher than that. If they dance around it at all I tell them straight up I'm not going to continue talking to them without that information. Usually it ends there because that is a hard line in the sand that our masters are totally unwilling to cross. If I get the number I ask for compensation that is higher than that. I do this because I am in an especially well payed position and most of the pay offered to me is laughably low. It almost always turns into the recruiter/manager becoming exasperated. One guy got so mad he looked up my glassdoor and found out I wasn't lying about my salary, he was furious and rage quit the call. This usually ends most interviews end because everyone wants to exploit workers for unlivable wages. If you are in a very stable place and want to have a good time, I highly recommend doing this. Find what they're unwilling to budge on and press them on it. It's free, it's ethical, and it will hopefully cause change in our system.
