I work in manufacturing as a welder for a company that builds construction equipment. I’ve been with the company off and on for about 5 years now. Since 2020 it’s seemed to have gone down hill. I left for what I thought was gonna be a better job and came back to this company with an offer to make over 25 an hour which is decent money where I live. HR pulls me in a couple weeks later saying that I don’t qualify for that we’re gonna drop you down to the entry level rate of 21 an hour. I decided to take that in stride because of everything else going on in my life but I decided to talk to a United Steel Workers rep about unionizing because of this and the way management is. My only issue is convincing others to join me. The parent company has some unionized workers but we’re not and the thought of unionizing has some of my coworkers scared the company’s gonna pick up and move out of state.
